Did OCV’s Twitter Account Get Censored by the RepublicanGOP?

Is it possible that One Citizen’s Voice had it’s Twitter account censored by the Republican Party and/or Mitt Romney?

At about 4pm Eastern Standard Time, Friday afternoon, the twitter account for One Citizen’s Voice was mysteriously suspended. Followed and Following accounts were removed and posting disabled without warning from Twitter.

It seems a bit out there to accuse Mitt Romney and/or the Republican Party of having anything to do with some random twitter guy’s account. However, with no emails from Twitter to explain (as stated in their email when you contact Twitter Support), the sudden expulsion of the OCV account leaves questions.

Friday’s posts by OCV seemed to be benign enough to not garner too much attention. However, there was one, posted about one hour before the suspension, aimed directly at the RepublicanGOP and Mitt Romney Twitter accounts:

Please Retweet: @RepublicanGOP With Respect, I request official removal of @MittRomney as your 2012 Presidential Nominee. He is a liar, a dirty politician, & a dirty businessman.

There is nothing about Mitt Romney that is representing the GOP very well. We, the people, are pretty sick of hearing about Bain Capital. We are sick of the smear campaigns. We are sick of the hypocrisy and lies. We are sick of even the smallest of flames being ignited to the detriment of others.

Every day that the Republican Party leaves Mitt Romney as their “ideal” Presidential Candidate, the collective opinion of the GOP falls to new lows.

Twitter does not offer phone support, and with no response from them via email, it is left to wonder what other reason could there have been for the suspension. Twitter has policies on use of 3rd party applications that add or remove followers, as well as a policy on ‘aggressive following’. The automated email response to the support ticket stated this:

Hello onecitizenvoice! We understand that you’re contesting an account suspension. Please be sure to read this entire email; you will need to take further action in order to reopen your ticket and trigger a review of your account. Twitter suspends accounts for a variety of reasons:

• If your account was suspended for aggressive following behavior, you should have received an email notification to the address associated with your Twitter account. You’ll need to confirm that you’ve removed all prohibited following automation from your account, and will stop any manual aggressive following behavior. To expedite your appeal process, please review our Best Practices page if you haven’t already, and then reply to this ticket with a confirmation that you understand our policies and will not engage in any prohibited following behavior.

• Please take a minute to review the Twitter Rules.

• If you received an email from admin@twitter.com saying ‘you’re being suspended’ or that we’re going delete your account, you’re safe; the email is fake. More information herehttps://support.twitter.com/articles/204820-safety-fake-twitter-emails

• While we strive to avoid mistakes, it’s also possible that your account was suspended in error. If after reviewing the Rules, you have no idea why your account was suspended, just reply to this email indicating as much, and we’ll take another look at your case. Our apologies if the error turns out to be ours. Thanks, Twitter Trust & Safety

After reviewing all the links, rules, and policies, it was clear that the account had not violated any of the policies. Furthermore, it clearly states that an email notification would have been sent if the ‘aggressive following’ policy was a factor. There was none. A second response from Twitter is still pending.

It may seem far-fetched, but it is very curious. On the One Citizen’s Voice Facebook page, you can view the tweets made from the OCV account yesterday. Beyond that specific tweet to the Republican GOP and Mitt Romney, there is no evidence of rule violations.

Until the suspension is resolved, One Citizen’s Voice is now operating on Twitter as ‘Censored_Voice’.

See you in the trenches.
